Julieta from America was happy choosing a dental vacation package with Dr Tarun Giroti in India

I am Julieta I live in Uruguay; America was looking for some general dental repair and maintenance work as recently I had been neglecting my teeth due to lack of time and money. I also had some discoloration of my teeth as well as several old crowns and fillings of dubious quality. But my main reason was to regain full use of my mouth as for nearly 18 years I have been missing 3 lower molars meaning I couldn’t chew food properly! On top of that I wanted a beautiful smile. I am known for my big smile, it is part of my persona and I was no longer proud of it.

dental vacation

After doing my research and reading up on Dr Tarun Giroti in India, I sent an email requesting a quote. To my surprise, after calculating the travel costs, the cost of getting the implants and root canal treatment, and accommodation costs, I would only have to pay about 50% of the total price I was quoted in the US for the dental treatment which i so desperately needed. I immediately decided to take the journey to India to have my dental treatment done. Dr Tarun Giroti is extremely professional in his approach to work and the manner in which he undertakes all the treatments. He took a great deal of time examining my teeth, putting me at ease and discussing my options. To achieve the finished look I wanted I needed to have 8 fillings replaced, 3 root canal treatments, 6 Emax crowns and 3 Bredent implants. I chose to have my teeth laser whitened but opted to have no veneers as I wanted to keep the look of my natural teeth. The work was started on my first day and in total 6 consecutive days sometimes with 2 sessions’ morning and afternoon. Quite intense at times but Dr Tarun Giroti was painstakingly patient and meticulous in his attention to detail, always ensuring I was comfortable and in no pain or distress. Everything was explained fully to me. Dr Tarun Giroti takes enormous pride in the aesthetic finish of his work, shaping and colour matching until it is just perfect. There were also two junior dentists in attendance acting as assistants and with Dr Giroti’s training and questions to them I found it interesting and informative plus it helped to distract me from thinking too much about the work going on in my mouth! The surgery required for putting in the implants was undertaken in the chair under sterile conditions. I was worried and nervous but felt very safe after talking to Dr Tarun Giroti. In fact the thought of the procedure was far worse than the reality and much faster than I had imagined. International patient coordinator of Dr Tarun Giroti was great as well making sure I was happy with my overall visit and finding my way about, booking taxis and offering cups of tea and friendly support. I have had the implants in place now for 2 months as well as 4 temporary crowns. I suffered no major discomfort, bruising or swelling and have had no problems or concerns with the quality of the work. I will be returning in another couple of weeks to complete the treatment. I was welcomed at the airport by them and we were driven in style to my accommodation. They were very attentive making sure I settled in ok and left me with a local mobile phone for me to use during my visit. The following morning they accompanied me to the clinic for my first meeting and assessment with Dr Tarun Giroti. The clinic was very clean, modern and light with all the latest equipment to hand. Dr Tarun Giroti is a stickler for detail and getting things just right taking a lot of time to explain what he could do and listening attentively to what I wanted to achieve which is so reassuring. One important thing to mention and something that really mattered to me is the time taken to complete the work. I was very discouraged by the thought of long drawn out procedures over several months with all the added inconvenience and dread. To achieve it all in the course of one full week with a follow up week for completion is worth a lot to me. It has also been a real pleasure to discover India, a lovely city and very friendly people. The positive experience kept me coming back to India to meet Dr Tarun Giroti, just for friendly visits with the staff.

Patients generally tend to opt for a full mouth reconstruction when teeth have been lost due to decay or trauma, teeth have been fractured or severely worn due to long-term acid erosion or tooth grinding. Temporomandibular joints, jaw muscles and occlusion: A normal, painless bite is important to your overall oral health. Therefore, when planning your restoration you need to consider the occlusal changes which might take place. You may require orthodontics or other treatment – like night guards or bite reprogramming orthotic – before the restorative procedure can be performed.

Esthetics: How your lips frame your smile when you laugh, smile or speak should be considered and studied through visual and photographic analysis, as this plays a big role in full mouth reconstruction. TIPS TO REDUCE DENTAL CAVITY NATURALLY

Overview

In today’s time Dental Cavities are among the world’s most common oral health problems. These problems can be seen in people of any age. Dental Cavities are also known as Dental Caries, which is nothing but the holes in the teeth. These holes and damage to the teeth are caused due to the aids maid by bacteria that leads to Demineralization and destruction of the hard tissues of the tooth.

There are various factors that increase the risk of getting cavities, which includes the food that sticks to your teeth for a long time, poor oral hygiene, dry mouth, repeated snacking or sipping receiving less fluorides, etc.

7-tips-to-reduce-dental-cavities-naturally

Depending upon the type of tooth problem, the signs and symptoms of the cavity may vary. Some of the most common symptoms of cavities are toothache, sensitivity, slight pain while eating or drinking, visible holes in the infected tooth and black, white or brown stains on the surface of the tooth.

7 TIPS TO REDUCE DENTAL CAVITIES NATURALLY

There are certain natural tips that can help in reducing dental cavities and maintain good oral health. They are:

  • Avoid sugary foods, especially those with refined sugar: Sugar is an integral part of our food and we cannot avoid it completely, but the usage of refined sugar should be avoided as much as possible because it is more likely to develop plaque in which the bacteria easily grows. After eating foods which are rich in sugar, you should rinse your mouth with water so that the excess sugar is washed off and not available as the food for bacteria to grow. Sticky foods rich in sugar should also be avoided as it stays on the surface of the tooth for a long time and the growth of the bacteria is catalyzed.
  • Ensure Nutritious foods: Maintain a diet which nutritious, healthy and rich in vitamins such as vitamin A, D, E and K and other minerals in order to keep your teeth cavity free. Calcium is very beneficial for your teeth as a result, it is suggested to consume dairy products, almonds, soy products and dark leafy vegetables. Vitamin D maintains the balance of calcium and phosphate in the bones and teeth, as a result coconut milk, cow milk, eggs and yogurt should be added to the diet.
  • Xylitol: Xylitol is a sugar alcohol which is safe for teeth. It has many dental health benefits. It prevents the growth of bacteria in the mouth. Xylitol being the natural sweetener does not convert into acids that cause tooth decay. It decreases levels of decay causing bacteria in the mouth. Add xylitol as a sweetener to some food items or use chewing gums that have xylitol. Dentists also recommend usage of xylitol toothpastes as it helps in reducing dental cavities naturally.
  • Take foods that break down plaque: Dental plaque is the worst and the most common oral health problem. It causes tooth erosion and decay. Dentists suggest the intake of foods that break down plaque. Apple, cheese, green tea, cranberry juice, dry fruits and nuts and fiber rich foods help breakdown the plaque. Intake of these foods suppresses the plaque development in the mouth.
  • Proper cleaning habits: Keeping your teeth and mouth clean is the easiest and essential way of reducing dental cavities. You should brush your teeth at least twice a day and should also clean your tongue as the tongue can also carry bacteria and food particles. You should also use floss to remove bacteria from places which are hard to reach through brushing. As these bacteria deposit may lead to the tooth cavity and hence it is suggested to follow proper cleaning habits.
  • Avoid carbonated beverage and acidic food: Soda contains high amount of sugar while diet soda contains phosphorus and carbonation which destroys the enamel on your teeth. Many energy drinks and bottled iced teas also contain high amount of sugar and carbonation which is unhealthy for the teeth. Lemons, citrus fruits and other acidic foods also cause cavity if kept for a longer period in the mouth. You should use a straw if you prefer regular intake of carbonated beverages in order to avoid it’s too much contact to the teeth.
  • Drink plenty of water: Water not only washes away the bacteria, but also keeps you hydrated so you can keep producing enough saliva. Water with fluoride is considered best for the oral health. It also dilutes away the acids which are produced by the bacteria in the mouth. Low saliva supply can cause dry mouth which can cause tooth decay; therefore it is advisable to drink plenty of water to avoid the risk of tooth decay.

Conclusion:

When the tooth enamel gets affected by the deposits of acid caused by the proliferation of bacteria on the teeth, a dental cavity is formed. Dentists normally suggest dental surgeries in order to fill the cavities. However by following the above mentioned tips, you can avoid the chances of dental cavities naturally. Proper oral care and hygiene should also be maintained in order to reduce cavities.

Cancer Treatments and Oral Health

Overview

Were you diagnosed with cancer? This is indeed a scary disease. If it’s not in an advanced stage, it can be treated or slowed down with chemotherapy and radiation therapy. These methods of cancer treatment can be quite effective. But often they have painful side effects that occur all over body including your mouth. Gums, teeth, salivary glands and oral tissues can all be affected as well. Some of oral problems caused by cancer treatments and therapy are so agonizing that a patient might need not delay or stop the treatment. Knowing about these side effects can help you reduce and manage them with help of your dentist and your physician.

maintenance-oral-health

How can your mouth be affected?

Radiation therapy and chemotherapy have oral side effects which vary as per type of cancer and intensity of cancer treatment. They can display themselves in following different manners:

  • Cavities can appear quickly due to low amount of saliva
  • Xerostomia or dry mouth follows a reduced production of saliva as salivary glands get affected during treatments
  • Jaws might experience stiffness
  • There might be a painful or burning feeling in mouth, gums and tongue which also follow a low amount of saliva in mouth
  • Ability to taste the foods reduces
  • Problems with eating, swallowing and speaking
  • Immune system weakens in general
  • Periodontal disease might emerge

To manage all above side effects, your dentist will recommend you to keep your mouth healthy and comfortable.

What should be done before treatments?

Have your mouth and teeth examined to see if you are pre-disposed for certain problems before undergoing cancer treatments. Dentists recommend undergoing a thorough dental exam at least two weeks before the cancer treatment starts. This is done to reduce and manage the undesirable side effects. If you already have cavities or if you already suffer from gum disease, treating and managing those disorders should be done previously.

Before the exam, notify your dentist about your health state with cancer and update your medical history. Your dentist must know who your physician is and what cancer treatment will be as well as other aspects of cancer diagnosis. All this information will help you dentist to understand and plan on how to treat, make right recommendations and support treatment plan of your physician.

How to care for your mouth?

If you have cancer, continue regular and thorough oral hygiene including brushing two to three times a day and flossing at least once a day. Your mouth becomes drier due to low saliva flow after undergoing radiation therapy or chemotherapy. This increases your chances to develop tooth decay and gum disease. Hence you should floss preferably after each meal.

While you brush your teeth, use mild-tasting toothpaste as too much flavour can irritate your mouth. If toothpaste irritates your mouth, then rinse with salt and water after brushing your teeth. To avoid gum disease, rinse your mouth with an antibacterial mouthwash. However, it is also vital to avoid mouthwashes since it contain alcohol.

What to do about dry mouth?

If you have cancer and are suffering from dry mouth, brush your teeth and clean your mouth at least four times a day and floss at least once a day. If there are areas in your gums which bleed or are sore, floss gently around them. Use fluoride containing toothpaste to protect your teeth even more against tooth decay. Rinse your mouth with a solution of salt and baking soda in warm water several times a day, followed by rinsing with water alone.

What should you eat?

While undergoing cancer treatment, you may experience loss of appetite and nausea. However, it is important to get right amount of nutrients and calories. Protein intake is also important. Ensure to get enough vitamins from fruits and vegetables. If needed, take vitamin supplements that provide essential minerals. Most doctors recommend taking vitamin D and calcium to keep your bones healthy. Avoid acidic foods, high sugar beverages, smoking and drinking alcohol during cancer treatment.

Final Verdict

While undergoing cancer treatment, your ability to taste changes and so it’s more difficult to eat foods. Despite all this, it is essential to maintain a balanced diet as recommended by your physician.

How long do Dental Implants last?

Overview

Today modern dentistry offers dental implants which are best solution for tooth replacement. Its main advantage is longetivity. Theoretically, the dental implants are can last for a lifetime. However, from the past few years, they have been largely used as they are safe and conventional option to get natural-looking teeth.

dental-implants-dentist-ontario-online

Need of Dental Implants

Dental implants have following advantages in comparison to crowns, dentures and bridges:

  • They function in similar way as natural teeth so you could have no difficulty while eating or cleaning teeth.
  • Dental implants feel and appear as natural.
  • If adjacent teeth are healthy, they need not be filled as support for missing tooth or teeth. Hence, it reduces need for root fillings.
  • Using dental implants, a strong grip can be given to the removable dentures.
  • With dental implants no special glue is needed to hold false teeth at required place.
  • With dental implants, natural process of the bone renewal is stimulated which helps in a good appearance of face and restored teeth.

Candidate of Dental Implant

Dental implant procedure is appropriate for anyone with one or more missing teeth and wishes to improve their chewing ability and physical appearance. However, it is important that patient should be 18 years or more and their bone tissue have been fully developed.

If you are thinking about dental implants then your mouth should be in a healthy condition with no gum disease or untreated tooth decay or else they will lead to dental implant failure or development of an infection. As per dentists, those having a healthy oral hygiene are candidate of dental implant.

When are dental implants not suitable?

Dental implants are not suitable in following conditions:

  • If a patient has problems of unrestrained diabetes and untreated periodontitis as there is a fear of infection and slow healing.
  • If jaw line isn’t sufficiently thick for accommodation of implants due to which bone grafting becomes impossible.
  • People who smoke because their efficiency of healing becomes lower and they can become candidate for a failed dental implant.
  • Dental implants cannot be done in people with blood clotting problems and some bone diseases, drug abuse, any kind of a deficiency in immune system and systemic illnesses.

How Long Dental Implants Last?

When someone says dental implants can last forever, it is no exaggeration but it is utmost important that a person should be healthy and have great bones. If a patient has a good oral hygiene then his implant will lasts for a lifetime. Today, dental implants are most successful cases of tooth replacement options. Continue with brushing, flossing and using dental water jet to take proper care of your implants. Also regular dental check-ups are necessary.

Though they are permanent restoration but success of it depends on following factors:

  • A professional and highly-qualified Dentist

It is necessary for longevity of your dental implant. Dentist should have clear idea of neuromuscular dentistry and how they can help patients.

  • Superior materials

For decades, basics of dental implant surgery have been same but now dentists use superior materials mainly ceramic or metal or a combination-type of an implant.

  • An improved match

Due to advancement in technology, titanium implants are treated chemically by improving their compatibility with living tissue. Now Computer Assisted Design (CAD) is used for a good replacement and fitting along with other teeth.

  • Are dental implants for you

Dental implants are good option only if you do not have any gum disease, don’t smoke or take heavy medication.

Risk Factors for Dental Implant Failure

If there has been no problem in healing process post dental implant, most probable risk factor is insufficient oral hygiene. This is because of bacteria build-up on surface of implant leading to inflammation of mucous membrane which surrounds implant called mucositis which if left untreated can lead to peri-implantitis, a more dangerous condition. In this case, there is inflammation and bone loss around implant which leads to loosening of implants.

Other risk factors include poorly aligned bite and trauma to the tooth or jaw.

Conclusion

Today, dental implants are best for replacing a missing tooth or teeth. Be careful with your oral hygiene habits after procedure to make it successful. In recent years, India is most sought after destination of medical tourists seeking dental implants due to low cost compared to the Western nations.
