Couple triumphs over infertility though IVF

Years ago, Riya and her hubby Mr. Sumeil were trying to have a baby. However, a few months later, she was diagnosed iwth endometriosis which is the blocked fallopian tubes in which the tissue from the uterine lining extends outside the fallopian tubes and the neighbouring organs. Though it is not a severe condition, but it causes great pain and many side effects. This is also a common factor for diagnosing infertility in women.

Riya choose to undergo a surgery for curing endometriosis since she and her husband has being trying for a baby since 2010 and for four years, they have failed to start their family. Finally, having feeling frustrated and lost all hope and out of options she made an appointment at a clinic located in New Delhi. At the initial few visits, she learnt about the fertility issues she was facing.

As per Riya, “When I spoke to Dr. Rita Bakshi at first, she was very patient and understanding and confirmed that endometrosis being the main reason behind my inability to conceieve despite the surgery. She also explained me in detail about the odds to become pregnant through natural means being less for me hence gae a well defined treatment plan for me.”

From this point, her on-year treatment began and she was advised to undego In-vitro fertilization. Riya says, “It was a very pleasant experience and this didn’t make her feel uncomfortable in any way. I felt like Dr. Rita Bakshi is the best doctor for me and she was truly there to help me since she was very compassionate, supportive, motivating and understanding.”

IVF treatment for endometriosis

The team at IFC has decided Riya’s best chance for pregnancy with IVF which is a simple procedure involving fusion the the male parent’s sperm and the female parent’s eggs in a laboratory dish outside the human body and then transferring it to the female parent’s uterus. Riya says that “Dr. Riya Bakshi was helpful and wished me good luck. It was the little things which doctors, nurses and other staff did at the clinic that made my journey unforgettable.”

Patience, determination and success

A few months later, she had a successful pregnancy. Riya said, “It was fortunate we had a successful IVF in 2nd cycle itself. I feel that only Dr. Bakshi could have helped us win over endometriosis and help us to conceive.” Riya and Sumiel gave birth to a baby girl in June 2015.

What Should You Know About IVF?

IVF is a procedure in which the eggs from a woman’s ovary are removed and are fertilized with sperm in a laboratory procedure. Then the fertilized egg is returned to the woman’s uterus. It is one of the several assisted reproductive techniques used to help infertile couples to conceive a child. If even after a year of having sexual intercourse without using the birth control, a woman is unable to get pregnant then infertility is suspected.

IVF is one of the many possible methods for increasing the chances of an infertile couple to become pregnant. Its use depends on the reason for infertility and it may be an option if there is a blockage in the endometriosis or fallopian tube in the women or low sperm count or poor quality sperm in the man.

The other possible treatments for these conditions includes are surgery for the endometriosis and blocked tubes will be attempted before IVF. It will not work for woman who is incapable to ovulate or with a man who is not able to produce at least a few healthy sperm.

Closing Thoughts

My biggest piece of advice is just to relax. You should have faith and trust in your doctor and yourself so that you have to make your own future. Couples should try for pregnancy in the early childbearing age before it is too late.

Myomectomy—Laparoscopic Surgery in India

What is Myomectomy?

Myomectomy also called as fibroidectomy is the surgical procedure for removing the uterine leiomyomas or the fibroids. During this procedure, the uterus of the woman is preserved such that it retains her reproductive potential. The myomectomy can be performed in a number of ways depending upon the number of lesions and its location, the experience and preference of the surgeon.

A myomectomy can be performed in a number of ways, depending on the location and number of lesions and the experience and preference of the surgeon. Either a general or a spinal anesthesia is administered.

How does laparoscopic myomectomy work?

The laparoscopic myomectomy is a minimally invasive procedure in which your surgeon will access and remove the fibroids. During this procedure, the patient will be given a general or a spinal anesthesia. Your surgeon will create several small incisions in the abdomen near the belly button. Then he will insert a laparoscope, which is a narrow tube fitted with a camera through the small incision. Your surgeon will perform the surgery  by inserting the medical instruments through the smaller incisions made in the abdomen.

The laparoscopic surgery uses smaller incisions than a laparotomy. This signifies you’ll be experiencing less pain and lose less blood. Patients can return more quickly to their normal activities after undergoing this surgery. The number of fibroids and the uterine size are the major factors that will help your surgeon to determine whether the laparoscopic myomectomy is appropriate for you.

Using the laparoscopic approach, the surgeon will visualize the location of the uterus and its fibroids and then remove it. The morcellators are used to divide the larger fibroids such that they can be removed through the small incisions. This surgical approach has lower morbidity rates and requires less time for recovery. The laparocopic myomectomies are not used for removing very large fibroids.

Advantages of laparoscopic myomectomy:

  1. The laparoscopic myomectomy has lower morbidity rates.
  2. Patients undergoing this surgery will recover faster.
  3. Women who undergo this surgery report of improvement in fibroid symptoms like pelvic pressure and heavy menstrual bleeding.
  4. This surgery will only remove the fibroids and leave your uterus intact.
  5. Undergoing this surgery will allow women who are planning to bear children.
  6. This surgery will be recommended by your doctor when he suspects that the uterine fibroids may be interfering with your fertility.

Risks of myomectomy:

Myomectomy has a lower complication rate, but some of the risks associated with it include scar tissue, excessive blood loss, childbirth complications and a rare possibility of hysterectomy.

What to expect post laparoscopic myomectomy surgery?

Post myomectomy surgery your doctor will prescribe oral pain medication and discuss the restrictions on your diet and other activities. Your doctor will also advise you to avoid sexual intercourse during the recovery time. Some women may have vaginal spotting or staining up to a few days. The laparocopic myomectomy recovery will take about two to three weeks.

Myomectomy laparoscopic surgery in India is cost effective and performed by highly qualified and experienced professionals. The hospitals in India have world class infrastructures and have modern equipments, thereby provide quality treatment and care for the international patients.

What is the procedure for laparoscopy surgery for uterine fibroids?

Laparoscopy is basically called as minimally invasive surgical procedures. In case when you are looking for the laparoscopy uterine fibroid surgery, you will get some options in surgery which includes Myolysis and Uterine artery embolization, but here we are discussing the most utilized and the most effective type of uterine fibroid removal surgery, which is:

Laparoscopic (robotic) myomectomy – In this surgery the surgeon needs to eliminate the tumor or the fibroids along with leaving the uterus intact. This surgery the instrument is used with a proper robotic arm assistance, which is put via a cut made during surgery in the abdomen region in order to remove the uterine fibroids. Uterine Cancer spread after Hysterectomy?

As per the Cancer Journals from US, a majority of Urin cancer cases are seen arising in the womb or uterus with a lining starting over the uterus. This is often known as endometrial cancer. This is among the most common kind of symptoms, which fall under the abnormal vaginal bleeding. This is known as the endometrial cancer, which falls under the most common types of symptoms of the abnormal vaginal bleeding. In most of the cases, you can find this condition being developed among the women of age group of 50 to 60. However, if this cancer is diagnosed in the early stage, the patient has enough chance to get the cure. Well, now, let’s dig in deep and understand how Urin Cancer is able to spread after the procedures like Hysterectomy.

What is Laparoscopic Hysterectomy?

The procedure of Laparoscopic Hysterectomy is nothing but minimally invasive surgery option, which helps in removing the uterus. Using a small size incision over the belly button a small size camera is inserted. The surgeon then catches up the image from the camera over the TV screen and thus it carries out the operative procedure. In some of the cases, the ovaries of the woman patient are also removed. The women have the option of either keeping their cervix over a right place and then remove the complete cervix or uterus using the laparoscopic hysterectomy. This procedure has its own benefits, which comes in the form of getting faster recovery and it is among the safer options to go with. Removing the uterus with greater ease with this procedure, the women do not need to worry about the menstruation surgery.

What Are Power Morcellators?

This procedure is often adopted by the gynaecologists while they perform procedures like hysterectomy. These instruments are also known as electric morcellators, which helps in carrying out too much of the cutting using the robotic or laparoscopic surgeries. The morcellators are often a small device having rotating blades, which help in breaking the large size tissue masses over the small fragments. The broken down tissues are then vacuumed from the body. This method is used by the surgeon for making a number of small size incisions in order to reduce the fibroids and surrounding tissues. This therefore gives this procedure an edge over the other options along with having fewer complications. However, many confuse about this procedure with vaginal morcellation. The term morcellation simply means doing a number of small size pieces. And in power morcellation is seen using electric tool with blades to make small size incisions in order to remove the tissues over the abdomen area.

How Morcellator Causes Uterine Cancer Spread?

As per the FDA and medical experts, 1 out of 350 woman having morcellator is seen having diagnosed with sarcoma, which the doctors are not able to find out before the surgery. The undiagnosed uterine can be lethal kind of cancer with poor life expectancy and several treatment options. However, there is no solid way for oncologists for diagnosing the uterine cancer before employing morcellator devices for grinding the uterus. Owing of this, the FDA are often seen strongly recommended for avoiding while using several devices for the hysterectomy procedures. The FDA has now issued a black box warning to all the doctors for using these devices. With the use of power morcellators, the undiagnosed leiomyosarcoma and other forms of cancer inside the pelvis and abdomen in the grinding procedure simply lead to quick cancer upstaging, which simply reduce the risk of having long term sustenance. As this risk is unleashed a number of doctors are seen having the power of using morcellators over previous years.

Final Verdict

Urin cancer is among the common forms of cancer found among women. This can spread with the use of morcellators with the procedures like hysterectomy. This is the reason why FDA has totally banned the use of these tools for the surgical procedure of urin cancer.

Laparoscopic Ovarian Drilling: Know the Facts!

The ovarian drilling is usually performed during laparoscopy. In this procedure, an electrosurgical needle or a laser fiber punctures the ovary for four to ten times. This treatment results in a dramatic reduction of male hormones within days. Usually this procedure is performed in women suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). As per the studies, nearly 80 percent of patients benefit from this treatment.

Women who fail to ovulate with Metformin therapy or clomiphene will respond well to these medications after undergoing ovarian drilling.

Laparoscopic Ovarian Drilling

How does ovarian drilling work?

The laparoscopic ovarian drilling is a surgical treatment that triggers ovulation in women suffering from PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). In this process, a laser will be used to destroy some parts of the ovaries. Although this surgery is not used commonly, yet this is an option for women who are trying fertility medications or for those women who are still not ovulating after losing weight.

Usually, the ovarian drilling is performed through a small incision with the help of a laparoscopy. The patient will be administered with a general anesthesia. Your surgeon will make a small cut at the belly button of the abdomen. Then he will place a tube such that it inflates the abdomen with a small amount of carbon dioxide gas. This will help him insert the viewing instrument also called as laparoscope without damaging your internal organs.

The surgeon will then look at the internal organs with the help of the laparoscope. Then he will insert his surgical instruments either through the same incision or through the other small incisions made in the pelvic area. The size of the incisions are so small that the laparoscopy is also called as “Band aid surgery”.

Will ovarian drilling work for me?

If you are having PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and having fertility issues, then your doctor will recommend you to undergo LOD (laparoscopic ovarian drilling). This is a minor surgical procedure which will treat the fertility problems in women having PCOS.

You will not know the happenings during this surgery, since you will be under general anesthesia. Your doctor will perform this surgery by making a small cut in the tummy and pass a long, thin microscope through it. Since the incisions created are very small, so there will be less scars after surgery. Also the recovery time required will be very less. Your hospital stay will also be reduced and you can resume your normal activities post surgery.

The laparoscopic ovarian drilling will lower the testosterone and the luteinising hormones (LH) and also boosts the FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone). In other words, this surgical procedure will destroy the tissues produced by the male hormones called androgens using laser or heat. Hence, LOD help to correct your hormonal imbalance, thereby restores the normal functioning of your ovaries.

Is ovarian drilling safe?

The ovarian drilling is quite safe. The side effects of this treatment are rarely reported.

Weighing risks and benefits:

The side effects of ovarian drilling are very rare. The risk factors related to complications during the laparoscopic ovarian drilling are ovarian failure or adhesion formation.

It is performed on women with PCOS who are unable to ovulate even after taking fertility medications or reducing weight.

This procedure helps to restore the regular ovulation cycles in women.

Women may be able to become pregnant after they undergo ovarian drilling surgery.

Ovarian drilling is an effective treatment for women having fertility issues. It helps to regulate the normal function of the ovaries. This procedure is quite safe and aids women to become pregnant. India offers excellent ovarian drilling treatment at quite reasonable rates.
